The 2nd AScUS Unconference hosted a workshop on the future of Urban mobility, aimed at elaborating a vision of a future city fully aligned to sustainability criteria and, starting from this, backcast the role that Urban Metabolism (UM) studies could (or should) have for achieving it. The Workshop involved 21 UM researchers, developing ideas about how UM could become more actionable and contribute to shaping a more sustainable urban mobility. As a key outcome, a more interdisciplinary approach was suggested, leveraging the potential impact of UM studies towards reaching a broader audience. This could incorporate the development of new indicators and visualization tools, incorporating also non-material indicators like equity or well-being and expanding urban metabolism research towards urban prognosis allowing to provide recommendations about potential sustainability impacts of foreseen policy measures.
